Cruising Round The Avenue - Avenue Viera Updates, September 21, 2021

Welcome to the Avenue Viera, located in well, Viera!

Viera is a very interesting place, to me. It's a liminal space of a city, and while most of Brevard County is pretty "new", a lot of it being built during suburban booms in the 1960s-1980s, Viera is even newer than that. Almost the entire city is a large planned community, which didn't even break ground until 1989, before which it had been an unassuming ranch. Becoming a large seat of local government only furthered this, drawing many people who are only there temporarily- you go to Viera to do jury duty, to sort out taxes, etc. But, Viera does have some stuff to keep people around, the biggest of which being the Avenue Viera, a large shopping center opening in 2004.

Anyway, enough babbling, let's get to the photos!

Our first stop is at the future crumbl cookies, which is opening in what was previously a Regis Salon.

This vacant storefront was last Blue Jasmine Boutique, and as L.A. Bridal in 2011.

and this vacant space next door was originally a Yankee Candle, which seems an odd thing to close in this sort of market. There is a B&BW elsewhere in the plaza though, so maybe that sapped it's sales.

and next to that is the future home of Thrive Local, which seems to be a space for artists and entrepreneurs to sell their items in. I really like the concept, I just hope they screen it well enough so that it doesn't become infested with mlm-storefronts. This space was originally Motherhood Maternity.

Past Kay Jewelers and on the other side of Belk we find this vacancy, which was last Kinna Dry Bar, which according to their website closed because Covid-19 related stress and landlord issues. For the curious and uninitiated, a dry bar is apparently not, like I first assumed, a variety of hipster bar, but a salon that focuses on basically just cleaning up your hair- they don't do cuts and color, but they'll make the hair you do have look as good as it can be, which does seem like a useful option to have.

and finally, Sola Salons is taking over two spaces, the left space being a long vacant Wet Seal, and the right space having last been Visual Dynamics Inc, a mobile phone repair shop.

With those photos, we can see that The Avenues is starting to get a little history and interest built up in it, and so maybe I'll have to make the trek out more often. Until next time!
